Mainstreet Advantage Conference

The mainstreet community was out in force with 130 attending for the Mainstreet Advantage Conference held at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on October 20.  Breakfast was a Walk on Watton at  brisk walking pace with Steve Bentley and the Vibrant City Centre Team showing us the exciting initiatives and plans for the Werribee City Centre.   While the barrista recovered we heard Keiren Flanagan deliver a passionate keynote on Finding Your Advantage.  The message was loud and clear: “You can’t afford to sit on the fence and don’t be boring”.

Cathy Treasure made us feel we were on our way to Parkes for the 25th Parkes Elvis festival! A crowd of 25,ooo is expected to descend on the town in 2017 not long after the Christmas pudding is finished.  Jude Hannah(Urban Glue) reminded us of the importance of relevance and honesty in main streets.  “People know when you are putting lipstick on a pig”.

Hello City guru Kate McMahon summed up the situation for retail strips:  The biggest risk is taking no risk at all.  Imagination, passion and commitment are required.  There were plenty more highlights and great networking.

Thanks to the City of Wyndham for hosting the conference and our sponsors Brauz and Panelhype

Level Crossing Removals

Thank you to the panel members for the presentation at Mainstreet Advantage on the level crossing removal program and Blackburn traders in particular for the active role they have played.  If anyone has passed through Bayswater over the past week the level of construction activity is extraordinary.  A further 17 projects involving trader consultation are underway.  For the latest on what is coming up on level crossing removals visit Level Crossing Removals
