A celebration and recognition of the people, projects and organisations that contribute to the success and vibrancy of our main streets.
Held for the first time in 2009 and every two years since, the awards exist to recognise the people, projects and organisations that make our main streets succeed and prosper. This year’s awards function and presentation will be held on July 20 at Functions on Chapel – Prahran Town Hall.

Behind every one of our successful main streets there are committed leaders, business operators, volunteers, committee members, community members, Centre Managers and Councils. Through their hard work, dedication and initiative enable main streets to thrive on all levels and respond to the constant challenges and opportunities.

Project and Program Awards
Innovation and best practice-based awards for projects, programs, events, marketing activities and activations that demonstrate all or some of the following attributes:
- Innovation
- Effective response to an issue or opportunity
- Problem-solving
- Collaboration and integration
- Responding to/making changes
- Increasing awareness and profile
- Resourcefulness
- Measurable outcomes and results
Project and Program Awards x 6
No allocated annual funding – a main street that has produced a project or program without the support of annual organisational funding*
- Annual funding of less than $100,00
- Annual funding of between $100,0and $200,00
- Annual funding of more than $200,00
- Main Street Digital Connections – online main street projects and campaigns
- Main Street Partnership – collaborative projects that involve the mainstreet and other public and/or private stakeholders
(*Please note: categories 1 to 4 refers to the annual budget of the Association or group, not the project or program event budget that is nominated for the Award.)

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
- Multiple applications for separate categories from the same organisation are acceptable.
- Multiple submissions of the same application in different categories are not acceptable. Please select the category that is most relevant.
- All applications for Projects and Programs categories must have been developed and implemented between December 2014 and August 2016.
- Applications must be submitted in the following;
- hard copy form with three (3) photocopies provided
- an email version to the designated email address
- attachments such as photos, marketing material, media, press articles etc. are welcome, but must be attached in A4 hard copy form if possible, or supplied on a USB with hard copy form.
- Applicants must be a financial member of Mainstreet Australia to be considered for judging. Applicants who are not members will be forwarded a membership form to join or renew for 2016/2017 membership year.
- All applications received shall be deemed to accept the use of their name and application in any material published with respect to Mainstreet Australia.
- Mainstreet Australia reserves the right to accept, reject or withdraw applications at its discretion. It also reserves the right not to award a particular category if nominations are not sufficient to fulfil the judging criteria.
- Applicants who have previously nominated and/or received an award are welcome to apply in 2016 and will be considered for selection.
- All applicants are expected to attend the awards dinner on 20 July, where winners will be announced.

JUDGING CRITERIA AND SCORING
Judges will assess the applications on the information provided
in the nomination form and supporting material provided to them. Unfortunately individual visits or interviews are not possible. Please ensure nomination forms and supporting material are presented correctly, as requested in the above conditions of entry.
The People and Organisation nominations will be assessed against the key qualities along with the outcomes and achievements that the person or organisation has achieved. The weightings will be as follows –
- Demonstration of key qualities 60% (score 1–60 points)
- Achievements and outcomes 20% (score 1–20 points)
- Innovation 10% (score 1–10 points)
- Overall contribution to industry 10% (score 1–10 points)

Maximum 100 points possible from each judge.
Scores from each judge are added together and an average score will be determined.
The Projects and Programs nominations (categories 5 to 10) will be judged against the following criteria:
- Demonstration of key attributes 50% (score 1–50 points)
- Achievements and Outcomes 25% (score 1–25 points)
- Cost effectiveness 15% (score 1–15 points)
- Overall impact 10% (score 1–10 points)

Maximum 100 points possible from each judge.
Scores from each judge are added together and an average score will be determined.
